A horrible infection where I developed an inflamed tear duct, and later stones were discovered in the eye due to the bacteria producing them. No one knew what this was except an eyelid specialist. The plugs can breed infection if you get pink eye, its terrible. I also had a complete lack of tear production and therefore extremely dry eyes. Cutting a long story short, I had eyelid surgery and plugs put in both eyes and over time they would fall out and be put back in. Well, at some point one lower plug must have actually fallen into the duct instead of falling out, but was replaced. Fast forward x some of years and I ended up with eye infection after eye infection for probably 2-3 years, with red eyes constantly. Finally, that plug fell out- leaving my eye flaming red to where the dr's made me feel like an emergency case. Turned out I had canaliculitis- I immediately had surgery and they found several stones and an old plug in there. Why did it take dr's so long to realize what was going on? My eye had been red and painful consistently for years. Now I have what a brand new dr (never going to that previous office ever again!) who says I have "the worst case of blepharitis" he has ever seen and am on completely new treatment for that. The plugs definitely made my eyes feel better, for awhile- but now I am left with no plugs anyway. Nighttime used to be the worst for me so I've started wearing Quartz goggles.Diananoreply@blogger.com
